I present the sexy Perdita Ortega!

Well I have started on my Ortega crew and still have yet to have played a game of Malifaux.
We have an order of Terraclips Malifaux Sewers on the way.
I am really looking forward to getting our terrain pieces done and try to get a game in or 2. Malifaux has apparently random game objectives and terrain pieces that have effects upon the game play. Some of these objectives and terrain pieces might be a bog, a soulstone vein, hanging tree, a graveyard, a campsite, or an arcane apparatus. I think I will like the game, we will just have to see how it turns out.

I have finished painting Perdita Ortega. I tried to use a darker skin tone on the Ortegas than you will see on my Lady Justice. I decided to incorporate some purples and decided instead of using silver and turquoise on the buckles and buttons and conchos to give an even more southwestern feel to them. I will update with more figures as I finish them but to tide you over, I introduce my Perdita....

So until next update, may your brushes stay pointed and your paint not dry out.

Malifaux update and Holy Crap! My wife can paint! Part 2

Well folks, sorry it's been slow in updating but I finished off my Malifaux Lady Justice crew with a Scales of Justice. Here he is in all his tormented glory. Yes, he is nailed to the crossbeam of the scales.
I gave him the same type of denim pants that I tried to go with for the whole crew. I just used some more wash and light brushstrokes of a light brown to make his pants very dirty. I gave him a darker skin tone than the rest of the crew, the same colored blindfold as Lady Justice and used some gloss to shine up the blood on his arms and in the scales.

Here is a whole crew shot with the Scales added.
I like the way the whole crew turned out. I did get started painting my Ortega Crew and will post pictures as I get them done.

As I said before Holy Crap! My wife can paint! She has been working on her Malifaux Leveticus' Crew. I just had to share this, she's not done with any yet, but you can see what she has accomplished so far.

Here are her Steampunk Abominations and Hollow Waifs.
I am so proud of her. She absolutely refused to let me tough them other than putting these together for her. She has done such a great job I keep joking with her that she'll be painting all the rest of my stuff! LOL!

My hobby needed a little fire under by butt!

My hobby has been lacking lately, so I decided to follow through with an Idea I saw in use at Wargames Con. How about a kewl light up flame and smoke light. Here is what I did.

I went to Hobby Lobby and found a box of electronic tea lights. These electronic tea lights are made to randomly flicker as if it were a real lit candle but is a simple light that generates no heat. I found a box of 16 that also had a set of 16 spare batteries for $9.99.

Then I took some simple batting, (I used a synthetic batting but you could use cotton) and cut sections that would wrap around the base of the tea light. I then took PVA or Elmer's glue and ran a nice coating around the side of the base of the tea light. I used a rubber band to hold the batting to allow the glue to set. when dried I carefully removed the rubber bands.
This is what it looks like when the light is on at this step. but we are not quite finished yet.

Then I took the item outside to our spray area and grabbed some black spray, in this case flat black Krylon Spray. and sprayed it. as long as you don't have any open area's to the "flame" part of the tea light you will be fine. and it's okay to leave a hint of white in the batting. Also note that it's okay if the side of the tea light does get some black on it.
Here is what the finished item looks like with the lights lit.

That's all there is too it. They were quick and easy to make the hardest part was waiting for glue and paint to dry.

This concludes my hobby tip for the week. :)

'Ard Boyz, Casting, and Holy Crap! My Wife can paint!

Hello all,
Sorry no pics this update, I have had a busy weekend at work. I am gearing up to run the the 'Ard Boyz Tourney on Saturday at Astral Castle in Midland. Will update after the event.

I have been working on molding and casting some stuff such as shoulder pads for my Celestial Lions and some Lion icons that I can use to personalize some vehicles. Also on the casting block some bases, that I need to make and cast should we need more for Malifaux. and don't want to have to make each and every single one. I still have Space Marines to paint! Instead of doing all this work on Malifaux and neglecting my Space Marines.

As a parting note I mounted the Wife's Leviticus Crew to the bases on a previous posting. We got them primed and this weekend I come home from a 12 hour shift. and find she got started painting her figs. OMG! They rock. She started on the Steampunk Abominations and has done an amazing job. I would like to say I had something to do with it but I can't. She is such her Father's Daughter, she wrote down all the steps in a little notebook and colors she used so she can go back and follow the steps exactly. LOL! As a note, my Father-in-Law has notebooks loaded with data on everything he does. Re-load a bullet, cook a chicken, you name it. When the Zombie Apocalypse comes his house is the first I am going to grab some guns and those notebooks! :)

Malifaux...pas?

Well as I said, during the trip to Wargames Con in Austin my wife saw the Malifaux figures on the shelf at Dragon's Lair. Not to mention she was eying the Brown Malifaux Case that Romeo and Kyle brought.

Well 3 of us here at the house picked up a Crew. I picked up Lady Justice because I thought the models looked kick @$$. So I have been working on them this week. Here are a shot of Lady Justice and the Death Marshals. I still need to finish their bases but the figures are painted.

I still have the Judge to finish but, what do you all think so far?

Ya know, I am just worried I am gonna get these all painted and done and my wife and Joe are gonna kick my butt into the ground. Oh well, I guess they will look good doing it. I attempted a little OSL (Object Source Lighting) on the Pine Box if you look close you can see a face. Yes, one of their abilities is to be able to put another model in there and attempt to take them out of play.

Have a good week.
